your ADHD coach

welcome, I’m Emma Strachan

founder of the adhd potential

You don’t need the polished CV bio. You don’t need me putting on a ‘good vibes only’ tshirt. I believe to create the change you actually want takes courage, vulnerability and letting all the messy out. But for that to happen you need to feel safe. So here is the messy me.

I left a decade of working in a well paid career, because I felt so strongly it wasn’t where I was meant to be. But I misjudged entrepreneurship and cried many times when it felt really hard. Getting ADHD support has allowed me to have the confidence to set my own standards and ways.

I was born with ADHD (and it was very obvious) yet it took depression, anxiety and hitting my wall to finally recognise it and take steps to change my life.

I am a mum, I love my children & often feel lonely being home alone with both of them all day. I feel much happier accepting what parenting looks like for me, even if judged by others.

Despite ‘achieving’ I always felt like unfulfilled potential, my internal voice was really mean. That voice is much quieter these days and no longer ‘drives my car’.

I am British living in the Netherlands, with a Dutch husband, raising two Dutch boys. The further I move from my cultural roots the more I question the meaning of belonging. So belonging with myself is key to my being.

Despite all my messiness, I know that what I share can change how you feel about yourself. It can change your life. That you can finally feel understood, that you can understand & advocate for your needs, that you can do the things you know you are capable of and know your future is full of potential (and fun!).

And that doesn’t mean by being better, doing more or trying harder. It means learning how to write your own manual and unmask the person who was exceptional all along.

And for that, I’m all in.

I was born with adhd, I will die with adhd. I don’t need fixing, I need understanding.

my best self

  • I am rarely content with an answer on face value. I need to know why. I want to dig deeper. I want to explore the world and learn about perspectives and ideas. I want my ideas to be challenged. When we start looking at the world with curiosity over judgment, we notice how much we’ve been missing.

  • Being vulnerable is my most powerful tool to accepting myself as good enough. Of course I am scared, but I am more scared of never finding the courage to have a go. My vulnerability allows others to be seen, it creates deeper connections, it allows me to learn from failure & step into embracing my whole self.

  • I love being with and learning from others. I believe humans live for connection. Connection creates communities, synergies and radical change. I seek out opportunities for connection. In this digital, fast moving world there is a unique power in taking the time to slow down and build meaningful relationships

  • I have always been highly sensitive. It has been my superpower in being able to create deep connections throughout life. To allow others to be heard. However it has also meant I struggled with boundaries and seeking others for validation. Through my own journey I have learnt how to manage it more effectively and see that all the things I was afraid of doing incase I hurt someone are actually the kindest thing I can do for everyone.

  • Fun was a value I left behind. I was so focused on all the things I wanted to achieve and feeling the need to prove myself, I forgot to find the fun. By taking myself too seriously I wasn’t sincerely accepting myself & my journey, I wasn’t making the most of the ride. With two little boys I have incredible role models. I am working on harnessing my inner toddler to have simple, silly, fun & laugh more.
